Falynn Reinard reached on an error, and Alexis O’Brien walked to put runners on first and second. Mifflin County had its best chance to get back in the game in the fifth. A fielder’s choice by Emily Griffith brought home Lauren Howard. Mia Bandieramonte singled to left to put runners on second and third. Lauren Howard led off with an infield single. Hempfield Area kept the pressure on by adding another run in the third for the 3-0 lead.

The Spartans made it 2-0 in the second after Sarah Podkul cracked a knock to center, went to second on an Ella Berkebile sacrifice, and plated on a Maggie Howard RBI base hit to center. Hempfield Area took a 1-0 lead in the first when Lauren Howard reached on a single, advanced to second on a groundout, and scored on a Husky error. Sophie McCurdy led Mifflin County with two hits. Lauren Howard collected three hits, Maggie Howard had two, and Emily Griffith chipped in with two RBI to lead the Spartans’ attack. “We had a chance to get back in the game in the fifth but we couldn’t convert our opportunities,” Weston said. The Huskies’ only real scoring threat came in the top of the fifth when they had runners on second and third with two outs but could not capitalize. Hempfield Area tacked on two more runs in the fifth. The Spartans took an early lead by scoring a run in each of the first three innings.
